Custom software development for processes that cannot be covered by off-the-shelf solutions

Custom software development for complex applications and systems

Software that suits you

Not every process fits into off-the-shelf software, and not every customisation is worthwhile. When off-the-shelf solutions reach their limits, we develop a solution that is tailored precisely to your process: cost-effective, flexible and future-proof. Discover our practical approach and find out whether a bespoke solution is right for you.

Software Factory develops bespoke software solutions for businesses whose requirements cannot be adequately met by off-the-shelf software.

We develop bespoke applications, specialist systems, technical software and web applications – from the initial idea through to design and development, right through to long-term maintenance and further development.

What is bespoke software development?

Custom software development involves developing software specifically to meet the requirements of a company or a particular task.

Custom software is more than just the digitisation of individual processes. We develop specialist applications, technical systems, web applications and extensions to existing software.

Whether you need to integrate different systems, modernise existing applications or develop entirely new software solutions, we will develop the right solution to meet your requirements.

If there is no standard solution, we will develop one.

Custom software development: From requirements to the finished application

The first step is to gain an understanding of your project, your requirements and your existing system landscape.

Building on this, we develop the concept and software architecture and implement the bespoke software solution using the approach best suited to the project – whether agile, traditional or a combination of the two.

Quality is an integral part of the software development process right from the start. Through continuous testing, automated quality assurance and structured checks, we ensure that the software functions reliably.

We will then integrate the application into your existing IT infrastructure and continue to support you even after the go-live.

Custom software development - customised to your processes

Bespoke software, developed for long-term use

A good software solution must not only work today. That is why, when designing and developing it, we focus on maintainability, scalability and long-term usability.

We select technologies that are suited to your specific task, your technical requirements and your existing system infrastructure. Even after implementation, we provide support with the maintenance, upkeep and further development of your software.

From an idea to a working solution

01 – Understanding the problem

We don’t start with technology, but with the process.
We understand your requirements, processes, business logic and existing systems.

02 – Developing a solution

On this basis, we develop a concept for a software solution that is precisely tailored to your specific use case.

03 – Integrating systems

Where existing systems can be put to good use, we integrate them via suitable interfaces.

04 – Implementing software

We develop the application iteratively and with a practical focus – with the aim of creating tangible added value as quickly as possible.

05 – Further develop the solution

Good bespoke software is not static. If processes, requirements or systems change, the solution can be further developed accordingly.

Three examples from our software development

For over 20 years: the digitisation of local government administrative tasks

A bespoke software solution for local government. Before the system was developed, data and official notices were still managed, documented and produced using index cards.

Software Factory has digitised these tasks and developed a bespoke application based on them, which has been operating reliably for more than 20 years. Today, the system is used to generate around 45,000 notices each year and ensures that all relevant legal requirements are met.

A management accounting system for 10,000 employees and individual requirements

A customised controlling tool designed to avoid the need for regular and time-consuming adjustments in SAP.

The system has also been in operation for around 20 years and is currently used by around 10,000 employees. Thanks to its flexible architecture, the individual application can be quickly adapted to new customer requirements and continuously developed further.

The project data recorded is transferred to SAP via an interface and processed there. This means that SAP remains unchanged, whilst the bespoke software solution provides the necessary flexibility.

Customised software for technical documentation in the context of a nuclear power station

In the case of a nuclear power station, the technical documentation comprises a large volume of records. Changes, repairs and modifications must be documented in a way that allows them to be traced.

Software Factory has developed a bespoke software solution for this purpose. Changes can be recorded in a structured manner, extensive technical documentation can be managed digitally, and relevant information can be made available quickly.

What was once a considerable amount of manual work involving physical documents and manual updates has been transformed into a digital, structured and traceable application.

When is bespoke software development worthwhile?

Custom software is particularly useful when off-the-shelf software does not adequately meet your requirements, when existing applications need to be expanded or modernised, or when different systems need to be integrated.

We work with you to develop the right software solution and support you every step of the way, from the initial requirements right through to long-term further development.

Your requirements are unique. So is our software.

General enquiries regarding bespoke software development

What is customised software?

Customised software refers to software solutions that are developed specifically for the requirements of a company. It precisely maps individual processes, business logics and system landscapes digitally.

Custom software is always a sensible option when a process can only be implemented using standard software through workarounds, manual steps or time-consuming customisations. Typical signs include numerous Excel spreadsheets, data disconnects, duplicate data entries or workflows that rely heavily on the knowledge of individual staff members. As soon as adapting existing systems would prove more expensive or less flexible than developing a bespoke solution, it is worth considering bespoke software.

Off-the-shelf software is a ready-made product designed to meet the needs of as many organisations as possible. Custom software, on the other hand, is developed specifically for a particular process and adapts to your workflow – not the other way round. Off-the-shelf software makes sense if it meets your requirements well; custom software comes into its own when individual processes would otherwise only work if compromises were made.

The biggest advantage is the precise mapping of your processes: less manual work, a lower risk of errors, standardised and traceable workflows, and seamless integration into existing systems. Because the solution is tailored precisely to your specific use case, there are no unnecessary features – and it can be further developed as your requirements change.
Customised software solutions are developed in such a way that they can be integrated into existing systems such as ERP, MES or IoT platforms via interfaces. This creates a consistent database between production and management.

Yes, thanks to modular architectures and modern development standards, customised software remains maintainable in the long term and can be flexibly adapted to new requirements.
