APOLI - SF research project

The aim of the APOLI research project was to ensure greater security in business processes in the age of Industry 4.0. The focus was on user-friendly authentication and authorisation of persons and objects involved in IT-supported business processes. In this project, automated authentication and authorisation procedures for industry, commerce, banks and services were developed with a maximum degree of automation by the end of 2017.

With this in mind, the researchers and engineers assessed the potential of the new and intensively discussed technological approaches SDN (Software Defined Networks) and NFV (Network Function Virtualisation). Fraunhofer ESK was responsible for the evaluation of SDN and NFV. As an expert in Industry 4.0 and the development of customised, requirements-based software solutions, Software Factory GmbH was the project partner responsible for integrating the machines into the solution with SDN and NFV. Software Factory also contributed its technical and methodological expertise in the area of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) by providing an ALM platform. Another project partner was Otto Bihler Maschinenfabrik Gmbh & Co KG. . It accompanied the development process of APOLI, provided the test environment for machine connections and carried out practical tests in the remote maintenance area.
