- Faster, consistent & traceable
Automated recording for an efficient quality process
Automatic recording and documentation
SF INSPECT 2D for PTC Creo automates the capture, unique numbering and management of inspection features directly from 3D and 2D CAD data. Dimensions, tolerances and other information are automatically recorded, documented and made available for quality assurance and metrology. This reduces manual effort, sources of error and duplicate data entry and enables a consistent, efficient quality process.
SF INSPECT 2D for PTC Creo is a powerful software solution for the automated acquisition, management and documentation of inspection characteristics directly from 3D CAD data. The aim is to make the entire quality process from design to metrology more efficient, faster and error-free.
At the touch of a button, all relevant inspection features are determined from the CAD model, clearly numbered and automatically stamped in the technical drawing. The numbering remains consistent throughout the entire product life cycle, ensuring clear traceability. Changes to the 3D model or drawing are automatically recognised, documented and updated so that an up-to-date and reliable database is always available.

Intelligent feature symbolism
SF INSPECT 2D supports the use of feature symbols in accordance with DIN 6770 or individually defined symbols. The inspection features are automatically placed near the respective geometry without changing the component itself. All markings are organised on separate drawing layers and can be flexibly shown and hidden in exported PDF documents. This eliminates the need to create multiple drawing variants.
In practice, many quality processes are still characterised by manual and redundant activities. Inspection characteristics are often derived from 2D drawings, numbered manually and transferred to inspection reports or CAQ systems. This process is time-consuming and prone to errors such as typos, transmission errors or inconsistent data statuses. It also has to be repeated every time a design change is made.
CAD-based data integration
SF INSPECT 2D solves these challenges by consistently utilising the data available in the CAD model and drawing. All inspection characteristics are derived directly from the CAD drawing and managed there. This ensures consistent data integrity in the sense of a „single source of truth“ and enables simple integration into existing PLM and CAQ systems without additional documents, files or complex interfaces.
SF INSPECT 2D determines the following information directly and automatically from the design data:
- Nominal dimensions with tolerances
- Shape and position tolerances with references
- Symbols (e.g. surface finishes, etc.)
- Notes
- References of dimensions and tolerances on reference planes and axes
This significantly reduces the amount of manual work and at the same time improves the quality and consistency of the data. The example of a component with around 80 inspection characteristics clearly demonstrates the savings potential: while manual processes take several hours, SF INSPECT 2D provides the inspection characteristics within a few minutes.
Standardised data transfer
All inspection characteristic information such as nominal dimensions, tolerances and links to geometry elements are provided in Q-DAS ASCII format. The associated 3D geometry data is exported in STEP AP214 format. This creates a continuous digital process chain from design to quality assurance and metrology. This consistency enables highly automated inspection planning and minimises manual intervention.
Digital quality processes
Overall, SF INSPECT 2D enables end-to-end digitalisation and automation of quality processes. Companies benefit from significantly reduced costs, minimised sources of error and a consistent, up-to-date database across the entire product life cycle.

General questions about SF INSPECT 2D
What is SF INSPECT 2D for PTC Creo?
SF INSPECT 2D is a software solution for PTC Creo that automatically records, numbers, stamps and documents inspection features from 2D CAD data. It enables consistent and error-free recording of all inspection features for quality assurance directly from the design.
How does automatic inspection characteristic detection work?
The software reads geometry, dimension and tolerance information directly from the CAD data. Inspection features are automatically recognised, uniquely numbered and stamped in the drawing - without manual input.
What advantages does SF INSPECT 2D offer over manual processes?
SF INSPECT 2D significantly reduces manual effort, minimises sources of error and ensures consistent data. Inspection characteristics are available within a few minutes, whereas manual processes can take several hours.
Which systems can the data be exported to?
The inspection characteristics are provided in Q-DAS ASCII format and as STEP AP214. This allows them to be integrated directly into CAQ systems, metrology software and PLM systems.
How does SF INSPECT 2D support design changes?
The system automatically recognises new, changed or deleted inspection characteristics. This means that all inspection plans, drawings and quality data are always up to date without the need for manual rework.
